Once the 26th President of the US, Theodore Roosevelt, had gone to settle the ongoing border dispute between Louisiana and Mississippi, he spent his free time hunting the bears.

During that time he found a bear tied to a tree that was painfully injured, Roosevelt's comrades said he could hunt bears but Roosevelt did not think it appropriate. He said that hunting an injured animal was against hunting rules. However, he ordered to kill those people so that he could get relief from his pain and yearning.

A lot of discussion in the newspapers and media of the incident.  Clifford Verryman, a cartoonist who created a cartoon for the Washington Post on the incident featuring Roosevelt with an adult bear who became quite popular. 

At that time, a person named 'Morris Michtom' who runs a candy and toy store was very impressed with his admin. His wife used to make children's toys. Asked permission to name Teddy Bear.Roosevelt gave permission without delay, thus making the world my sweet little teddy. This teddy quickly became popular among people due to being light, President Roosevelt even made him his mascot in the next election.
